Grain to Pixel
Working within the darkroom, I approach image-making in the same way I work with digital photography. While some images are consummated at the moment of shooting, others are not. I found myself masking light, stenciling, and creating new images from what I had originally shot.
As the experimenting continued, I came to see other forms of image making, such as flatbed scanning, as a digital counterpart to what I was doing in the darkroom. Bridging a gap between these two modes of working, I brought it ‘born-digital’ images into the darkroom, translating the digital through analog means.
Ranging from the representational to the abstract, the above work is my exploration into analog photography and how it has informed my understanding of the ‘born-digital’ image.
